Update on the Termination of Discussions Regarding Unification of the Profession

First of all, thank you for your interest and engagement in these discussions. CGA Ontario’s board and management are guided by our members and students’ best interests. Whether it’s emails to ceo@cga-ontario.org, posts on the unitedprofession.org forum, LinkedIn group page or Twitter, telephone calls or in-person chats during Association events, we’re listening, responding and carefully considering all comments received.
As announced last week, both CGA Ontario and CMA Ontario have terminated their participation in discussions regarding unification of the accounting profession in Ontario. As a result, unification will not proceed in Ontario.
CGA Affiliates Terminate Talks
CGA affiliates, including CGA Canada and excluding CGA Alberta, have terminated merger discussions. CGA Alberta continues its discussion with CMA Alberta. As previously announced, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta withdrew months ago.

Public Accounting Licences: Declare Your Intention by June 22nd
Act now! If you intend to pursue a public accounting licence, and
have or will have the required experience of 2,500 hours and 30 months
in an approved training office by June 22, 2012, you must inform CGA
Ontario by June 22, 2012, of both your experience and intention in
order to take advantage of the route to licensing under Guideline No.
2010-6 of the Public Accountants Council.
